No agent news this past week, but San Jose State University announced the winner of the 2010 Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Writing Contest on 6/30/10. You won't find good writing in this contest! What you will find is the best of the worst first line in fiction. The contest has been around since the early '80's and is great fun! Here's this year's winning opener (sucking, kisses and gerbils, oh my!):
"For the first month of Ricardo and Felicity's affair, they greeted one another at every stolen rendezvous with a kiss--a lengthy, ravenous kiss, Ricardo lapping and sucking at Felicity's mouth as if she were a giant cage-mounted water bottle and he were the world's thirstiest gerbil."
