This just in....my novel Thirteen FINALED in RWA's Dixie First Chapter Contest! Wow! This was the first contest I'd entered with Thirteen. My main goal was to get contest judge feedback to see if the story "worked" and had at least some appeal. I never dreamed I'd final! This is a new twist for me, writing in 1st person point of view since I normally write in 3rd person POV.
Next up: it gets sent to Chris Keesler, editor at Dorchester Publishing, for final round judging. Go me! Keep your fingers crossed!
What great middle of the long weekend excitement!

Hmmmm
Well, my editor resigned effective June 3. I'll be assigned to a new editor eventually. Haven't heard anything yet.
Ok...I see negatives and positives in this situation. The positive being that maybe my editing schedule will move up again. The negatives: 1) the new editor may be swamped as hell and I get pushed out even further; and 2) the new editor isn't as passioned about my novel as the acquiring editor. That would truly suck. On the bright side, maybe the new editor will love my novel even more. One could only hope.
I was out of town for a couple days this week on work business (my day job), which cut into my writing/revising time! But I finished the first pass through of the as yet untitled novel and added/deleted all the items from my running list, and moved things around. Word count is now at 76,750. My next pass through the novel will be to beef up character background, sensory descriptions, emotions, goal/motivation & conflict.
This is my methodical revision formula. It's easier for me to tackle revisions in stages than to try to do everything at once. It may take longer, but it feels more complete & coherent in stages. This isn't to say that I don't move a comma, add or delete words as I go thru each revision! Can't stop that internal line-editor! My 3rd pass through: scene, chapter and paragraph unity and flow. From the 3rd pass thru onward, things go much quicker. The first 2 passes are the slowest...since it's almost like re-writing.
See you on the flip side!

Delays and Stuff...
Well, my editor has pushed out edits for Chasing Shadows until the September time frame. I may or may not see a 2007 eBook release. Bummer! I did get cover art this week, though. They do some great artwork over there! However, I had a few issues and sent back comments & suggestions yesterday. We'll see what happens from here. Once I have approved artwork, I can post it.
I'm diligently working on revisions to the untitled "Druid Island" book. I've now increased word count by 4000 words from additions and first round revisions! Geez, by the time I'm done with it, it may be a regular length novel!
Not much else to report. I'm slaving away writing. It's a great feeling to have that craving to write everyday after the 2 years I was AWOL.
Have a great week!

Done!
I completed my short fantasy romance novel tonight! 71,000 words later! It's a great feeling to have completed the first draft! Yeah, me!
Now on to other things...like editing it, finishing Heart of Darkness, working on Thirteen, and editing Chasing Shadows (first and foremost)!

Still More Words!
Despite allergies killing me all week, I had a very productive writing week again. However, I haven't yet completed the fantasy romance short novel! I didn't think I had so much more to say, but that's the beauty of fiction writing. The story has a life of its own inside my head and my fingers have no control over the keyboard! I'm up to ~67,000 words now, and it looks like I'll go to 70,000. Of course, that's best guess right now! But the climatic ending is done, and I just have loose ends to tie up. Heck, originally I thought this was going to be a prequel novella at around 40,000 words! Was I wrong or what?
Not much going on with Chasing Shadows. I'm supposed to get a revised editing scheduling this week.
Have a happy week!
